Gray Poem by Beverley Katherine

Gray

the place where
varying shades of gray
cover, corner to corner
the buildings and roads
concrete scenery
jungle of rocky tree roots
no longer earthy brown
or mossy
where snow isn't wet or frozen
you just feel it on your silver skin
you cannot watch it disappear
when you look, it isn't even there
and the metallic sky isn't real
it isn't even pretty
it is just a mirror of invisible traffic lights
and nothing people,
immersed in charcoal
or tin
this is where
you cannot see because there isn't contrast
you may only feel
shiny wind run the length of your hand
raindrops disappear on empty skin
the brush of gray lips, gentle
upon your own.
but even then, it is a long shot in the dark
that does not even exist.
