Greatness Poem by Matthew Buchwald

Greatness

What once was great is now no more
Than a shadow of the past,
The glory that we had in store
Won't come to us at last.
By end of day, the light passeth away
And in darkness we stumble and fall;
So Death, when it comes, finds us all!

No more grandeur of courage in war
Or majesty measured in blood,
No more hero who fears not to roar,
Whose fury spills out in a flood!
Just like any coward at the final hour,
Though ever so brave,
We all end up in the grave!
