Guy Fawkes And The Gunpowder Plot. Poem by Shaun Cronick

Guy Fawkes And The Gunpowder Plot.

Rating: 5.0

Outside my open window,
A firework has been lit.
One with an obtuse purpose,
To make a hellish racket.

It's going on for ages,
Surely it will soon stop.
But it gets a second wind,
Like a wetted window raindrop.

On and on and on and on,
To test the patience of Job.
This thing is getting louder,
An assault on any earlobe.

What the bloody hell is it,
Maybe the battle of Stalingrad.
Plus the bombing of Dresden,
Sure enough to drive one mad.

A firework called a Repeater,
That is its unwelcome name.
A pyrotechnic lit by kids,
Annoyance their childish aim.

My sanity has now returned,
It has spent its last shot.
And the idea of poem entitled...
Guy Fawkes And The Gunpowder Plot.

Very incisive poem Shaun. I must say I really sympathise with your plight. I love your use of hyperbole in the form of the ' Battle of Stalingrad' and ' The Bombing of Dresden'...made me laugh a lot...pure comedic genius! It's certainly a test the patience of a saint inspired ten from me!
