Handshake And Cigarette Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Handshake And Cigarette

Handshake and cigarette

On pavement of Dundas
a young man
way too young and fresh
possibly a Muslim,
obeyed his old culture:
"Help and care, "
Mesopotamian cradle.

Lad stood
visible a bundle
among which hid homeless.

Young turned right,
holding a yellow bag
extended to bundled,
(shaky and weary in amazement.)

Then a word, cigarette and handshake
That was all he could do "give and care."
