Hanging Between The Stars Poem by Daniel Ionita

Hanging Between The Stars

My heart was left hanging between some stars,
from where hope was snowing,
lonely, towards the surface of the earth.
You were beside me and I was seeing you less and less.
Why did I follow you there?
Why did you leave without me?
These are questions ephemeral as a snowstorm.
I have not asked you where we were going,
nor why the path was no longer visible.
I was watching the expanse of the universe,
waiting for the dawn.
And for you.
I felt the snow flaking toward the abyss.
I heard the morning singing carols,
and I saw rotund little Father Christmases
running around from here and there.
All off a sudden I did not feel you anymore.
I could see you, but you were no longer with me.
As if on purpose,
you have left my heart hanging between stars;
between snowflakes,
you waved to me and called for me to wait.
