As it turns out, your love songs made me cry.
It’s hard to look at your face—
Can’t look away, though because
You
And I
Live in a constant state of leaving.
This smile belies the weight I feel
Nothing
But a (happily) drunken message from Ohio
Could have made this harder
For a smiling novice like me
But come to terms with it; rationality prevails—
It’s better this way
It’s better this way
She’ll undoubtedly be happier
I’ll undoubtedly be happier.
Best friends too,
And friends till the end
How awful.
'It’s hard to look at your face—/Can’t look away, though because/You /And I/Live in a constant state of leaving.' Most poignant. And yes, the last line.
I really love this one. And the last line is the real feeling behind the facade of smiles. I would leave off the word 'both.' You don't need it. Good work. Raynette

Casey, This is what poetry is all about. You express a feeling which does not belong to you alone but that can be understood by anyone who has been in a relationship - romantic or platonic. In this you seem to be celebrating a loss because it is an experience (that may sound perverse) and as such becomes a gain. I would be hard pushed to say that there is a line that stands out simply because this works as a whole. All the best Denis Joe
