Have You Ever

Have you ever
Been
Just walking
Down the street
Down the stairs
Beside the river
In a desert
When
Out of the blue
The red
Out of the world
A thought
Occurs
You don’t
Particularly
Like
Or want
To hang
Around?

You trip
Because
The thought
Disrupts
Your rhythm
Your consciousness
Your enjoyment
The thought
May disappear
For a moment
Hide
Behind
You’re tripping
Your falling
But not far
To be out of reach
Its just out
Of touch
Waiting
For you
To regain
Balance
Then it
Sticks
Its head
Into your head
Again
As if from
Nowhere
Where it is
Originally
From

The thought
Has no button
No on/off switch
No tangible
Way
To be touched
It’s a thought
After all
Not a thing
Except that
For a non thing
It acts
Exactly
As if
It were
A thing
You can’t touch
It
Even though
At the same time
It
Can touch
You

poet Robert Burns

When biting Boreas, fell and doure,
Sharp shivers thro' the leafless bow'r;
When Phoebus gies a short-liv'd glow'r,
Far south the lift,
