I went to pay my respects today
To someone that I knew
We had met years ago
When our problems were so few
But as the years went by
His life became more difficult
Unable to keep a job
Resentment was all he felt
He believed the world was against him
In all that he'd do
Of course it was plain to see
That this just wasn't true
When ever things went wrong
He turned to drugs and booze
He had all but given up
Believing he had nothing left to lose
They found him one day
In a rundown hotel
He either passed out
Or he must have fell
Sprawled on the floor
Next to his bed
When the firemen walked in
They knew he was dead
The service was simple
Family and a few friends
What a very sad way
For any life to end

Ray, this is beautifully-written and full of emotional energy. Thanks for sharing. I think almost everyone can relate to circumstances like this.
