He Trusted Only Her Eyes Her Devil's Heart Poem by Terence George Craddock

He Trusted Only Her Eyes Her Devil's Heart

boldly flippantly he declared it to heaven
love mad sad he did not stop to think
wrote his fate in seal black ink not pink
without question in depression possession

he claimed 'I don't believe in Heaven'
'nor a promised peace the preacher cites'
love sick he said 'I only trust your eyes'
his chart star guides his 'heavenly lights'

he said 'I don't believe in God above'
the one 'Who gets the preacher's nod'
'now I only trust your heart my love'
foolishly said 'And have no other god'

careless said 'I don't believe in Devils'
fearless said 'In hell or hell's black art'
bewitched 'I only trust your eyes dart'
minion spoke 'And your devil's heart'

caution trust a good heart or swift depart
tale moral those we remiss raise up as idols
can crush us when they prey fall upon us
he trusted her eyes he trusted her devil's heart
