Hiding The Hurt Poem by Susan Lacovara

Hiding The Hurt

Rating: 5.0

If I ask that you not look into my eyes
Not today, not now, not too deeply
Will I be able to conceal the sorrow
Acting as if the world still appears new

If I keep my head lowered and not meet the glance
Of the chance strangers on the street
Could I come off as complete
A passing figure of lightness

If I bury my head in a book, in the park
Beneath the canopy of falling leaves
Would I be allowed to grieve in my silence
Without disrupting the songbirds

If a ask that you not ask how I am
This day, today, and maybe tomorrow
Might I borrow a moment of Grace from God
Feeling so small, breaking so hard
