Hierarchical Systems Poem by Pearl Walden

Hierarchical Systems

So important to have a system
To rank the people we encounter
Family, school friends, work
Colleagues and then all the rest,
The hoi polloi and riff raff,
The ones who may be of use in
Furthering our careers, the ones
Who may bring us wealth and fame,
The virtual versus the corporeal
When the most vile and debased
May take precedence over the
Harmless and ordinary, so
So important and ultimately
Egotistical and degrading.
