Homeostasis Poem by Cheryl Renaud

Homeostasis

To ease away from my own brokenness
I am beyond the level of existence

a petal deveined from one flower,
day after day is done, hour after hour

I am mortal and take to my ground
species of understanding, diversity of trust

behind the guise of granite shadow
and fill the space with art, not icons

because the glare is unobtrusive,
a beckon for disquieting muses,

God, if I have to go through this again!
I can lapse into many winters

without an ounce of sleep, staid and reserved,
Boiling continents will melt my barriers

polish my pearl austerity
and bring my mountains to the sky
