hope is not a bird
hope is not an angel
singing the hymns of freedom
in the heavens above.

hope is
that eternal light
that shines across the valley of courage.

hope is
that god send fear
that men strike upon
as they struggle.

hope is
not an ocean
not the bright sky upon our land.

hope is
the droplets of sweat
that men and women make every day.

hope is
that fire
that love shimmers across our hearts.

hope is
that when gone
brings love for the dead
when they are no longer.

hope is
not a craving
that can be bought in the local store.

hope is
men and women
making progress
as they fight for their happiness.

hope is joy
hope is life
hope is the freedom
to enjoy life
as one likes.
