Hope Springs Eternal (Cwm) Poem by Andy Brookes

Hope Springs Eternal (Cwm)

'Life, to quote, is like a box of chocolates, '
the Muse said 'We never know what were getting.'
As usual she comes without knocking
but is welcome nonetheless.

'Well maybe, I said. 'That's so but to a poet,
sometimes, I think, life is more like
a box of fireworks, rockets and roman candles
sometimes Catherine wheels or cracker jacks
but mostly damp squibs, yet rarely, we all of us
are touched by genius once in a while.'

The Muse laughs. 'When have you my friend ever been touched by genius.'
'That maybe true I say but one day......'
and we leave it at that.
