How Do You Love Hate Poem by Paul Larmour

How Do You Love Hate

peace stood in the corner
face in his hands
his back to the bodies
of men, women and children
black, bloated bodies belching flies
with wars words waxed in his ears
sitting slumped against the wall
life stared with dead eyes
at death dancing around a decaying field
with a calculator in his hands
and asphodels sprouting in his wake
at the other side of the room
tying himself up in knots
freedom sat swaying, shell-shocked
starting at the slightest sound
while slavery took a liberty with everything
and famine grew fat on the corpses of the hungry
beside freedom sat love
once the envy of narcissus
sucking on paranoid joints
through a beat up face
ashamed of her union with peace
a union which spawned jealuosly
watching through hate-filled eyes
to change them she would have to love them
how do you love hate
how do you love war
how do you love death
how do you love slavery
her mind a maze of magnifying misfits
that no drugs hazes to grey
