By Josh Rodriguez
What I admire most
In a person is the ability
to create chaotic beauty
Through gorgeous mayhem.
In the same way that
Flickering black and white films
Show colors incomprehensible
To us-unless we shut off our mind
And let our subconscious take over
And soak in the color, in between the
Shades of grey.
I see in all these smiles-
As fraudulent as they are-
Genuine happiness, they're happy
That they don't know.
They're happy to fake it.
Smiles also have hues, though
I see sadness, anger, fear-
All these in the pressed lips.
Happiness doesn't come without
Woe and anger and on and on-
That's too simple.
I've learned well by now
That life isn't simply a puzzle,
It's a puzzle that's missing pieces
That we're expected to complete.
