I am civilized Poem by Shruti Goswami

My vagina
Takes a pounding
Every time
A politically correct
Statement
Justifies
The crime of a rapist,
Every time
Breasts are flashed
As part of celebration
Of a man's game
With a ball;
My vagina
Takes a pounding
Every time
Politicization of rape
Occurs
Victims victimized
Muscles flexed
Girls put up
As cheap commodities
In media and brothels
For men to buy.
And all of them
For whom
Flesh and vital stats
Getting laid
With no strings attached
Chase and hound
Without a care
For the soul inside
That hourglass
For those who lust
With tongues wagging
Or with eyes ogling
And boast of being
Manly enough:
Patriarchy teaches
Men will be men
Worse than animals
That the only way
To control women
Is to leash in
Her sexuality.
That rape is nothing
But a tool
To take revenge
On an enemy
That buying sex
Is just a way
To endorse
Male polygamy
That the male psyche
Should start
With erection
And end
With ejaculation.
When will it teach
To think
Men have a soul;
When
Will it teach
Together
A man and woman
Are a whole
That there's much more
Beneath the flesh
That there's a soul
To unite and fight
Against greater causes
Than mere display
Of unabashed power
Establish that which is
For every human
A right?
My vagina
Takes a pounding
No matter
In which safe haven
I reside.
I still belong
To the minority
In a civilization
That has abused
And conveniently lost
The meaning
Of the very word.
