I Am From The Place Poem by Francis Duggan

I Am From The Place

I am from the place where the Cails waters flow
Through old rushy fields and by dyke and hedgerow
To join the Finnow at a spot called the lyre
Of singing of such beauty could one ever tire.

From Kippagh through Ballydaly, Feirm and Annagloor
Through lush grassy fields and fields rushy and poor
And through Shannaknock and Liscreagh every night and day
The Cails to the Finnow keeps babbling away.

I am from the place where the migratory cuckoo in May
Is heard singing cuckoo in the woods every day
A smaller bird for her the young cuckoo will rear
Even in Nature's kingdom life's not always fair.

I am from the place where Cails and Finnow meet
In that old green countryside west of Millstreet
But I am one who has known a better day
And the clock on my life it keeps ticking away.
