I Don't Understand What You Mean About The Fish Being Thirsty Poem by Raj Dronamraju

I Don't Understand What You Mean About The Fish Being Thirsty

She came alive in Wagstaff's living room
She threw aside her pocket book and put down her drink with enough force it splashed on the table
Then she spoke her peace and her words were tied to a rock that dragged down our grasp of what she was saying until we were forced to let go

She came alive when offered a meaningless proverb
What does the thirsty fish signify? Not taking advantage of what you have? Greed and wanting too much?
She slid face down on a long goodbye to any attempted familiarity
Maybe once or twice girls like her put doubts like that aside

In the midst of water we find a thirsty fool
Who talks too much and wonders if this came from China
Fortune cookie logic, safely ensconced in the papasan chair you bought specifically to entertain the opposite sex
She sat somewhere else and swatted your hand away when you tried to let it dangle on her shoulder
