I Have Abandoned Poem by Yiling Ding

I Have Abandoned

I've abandoned myself
to the dark and cold winters
of desperate struggle.

Always ran away from
the ceaseless blankets of ice
that chased me with their
mechanical regularity
(robots from an arctic hell) ,
from the hungry tentacles
of gluttonous souls that
lived in those frozen clouds.

Tried to protect the
embers of my life, and the
solidity of my world, to
hold onto my semblances of
sanity, fighting away the
horrific nightmares of cold.

Then the fire was spent in
its escape from extinction,
and my cold, cold carcass,
left unmoving on a ground.
I see the monsters, the
machines of madness, of
a different reality, full of
unsatiable lusts, clamoring
over their awaited prize, but am
far too tired to even feel the
agony of their defiling touch.

I've abandoned myself
to mad apathy. I have
no more strength to run.
