I have travelled in a circle through France Portugal and Spain,
Perhaps one day in the future I will travel this route again,
A reason for memories no time for great regrets,
Tonight I find myself back home again happy it gets no better than this.
I have basked on sun drenched beaches,
Then played in the breaking surf,
Wandered the goat paths in the mountains,
With Roman ruins as witness to civilizations past,
I have been to the end of the known world,
From where Portugese explorers set forth,
With no charts or maps to guide them,
Strength, intellect and courage was their worth,
I have viewed the sun over North Africa,
Tasted and breathed the Saharen dust,
Viewed a perfect Spanish landscape,
Ruined by developement and greed.
We spent some time with family,
Then charted our Northward route,
After crossing a few mountain ranges,
Homeward boundwards was the route that we took,
As tonight I finish this poem,
From the shores of the Isle of Wight,
We have had so many adventures,
But being home is a pure delight.
