I Hope It’s Not Too Late Poem by Michael P. Johnson

I Hope It’s Not Too Late

“I’m fighting back to You my Lord
I’m trying every day
Allow me please return on board
Don’t sail from me away

I need Your help I’m not too strong
This mountain’s rough and steep
The journey back has been so long
Through rivers swift and deep

It’s sin that held me in it’s hand
Each day a little more
Until I saw what Satan planned
Again I sought Your Door

For Jesus’ arms are open wide
Life’s Door to love and grace
Allow my God again inside
This child who seeks Your face

My deeds are so that I should die
So dark that I should burn
I turn to You my God on high
Please let this child return

Chastise me here as You see right
I’ll bear all now You give
But shine within Your Guiding Light
Allow this sinner live

Lord, let my prayer be not in vain
Please say that I may stay
I’ll never turn from You again
It’s true; what now I say

Through sleepless nights I lie awake
Not knowing of my fate
Please save me from the burning lake
I hope it’s not too late.”
