I Know I Can
Strength and determination written on his face
Standing, needing to take that anticipated step
Punishing his body with the hard surface of the floor
Tears stream from eyes of frustration and thwarting
A screech of anger echoes the house forced by failure
Hands of aid denied pushed away rejected angrily
Independence reigns a task to be conquered a lone
Liquid eyes of decision conveying the next move
Finding support, pulling himself up on wobbly legs
Concentration etched deep; a tattooed purpose
A final sob inhaling courage exhaling miscarry
Unmoving he watches his dog cross the room
Inability forgotten steps less then skillful he is mobile
Giggles fuel his motivation soft fur awaits his touch
Triumph as he’s greeted with a wet tongue and wagging tail
Not yet, one but he’s on the run, his walk has just begun
*babies first steps*
