I, Myself A Dragon Poem by Leria Hawkins

I, Myself A Dragon

I, myself a dragon
I love most shiny things
In smoke, I whisper magic
In flame, you'll know my sting
My back is strong and sturdy
My wings are sure of flight
I have the will to persevere
I won't give up a fight
My eyes are dark and piercing
I see much more than most
I'll quietly slip into your dreams
To linger like a ghost
My nature is to haunt you
In strokes of flesh and flame
The fire I'll breathe upon you
Will weld you to my games
When my excessive desires are sated
When it's time for me to rest
I'll leave you to your hunger
With a weight upon your breast
You'll thrash around unknowing
Just why you're losing sleep
Then wake upon your pillowslip
Your body spent and weak
Your flesh is cool yet burning.
Your brow be damp with sweat
The dream that's left you yearning
You'll fail to recollect
