I try so hard to be what I'm not
I try to be happy and smile
even though I'm dying inside
I try to laugh and play games
the pain I try to hide

I try to act normal and sing a happy song
I try to cover the marks that coat my arms
I try so hard to act blissed out
when I'm crying inside

behind every smile there's a tear of pain
behind every laugh is a cry out of shame
behind every motive of happiness you see
there is a girl in me trying to break free
