I Was A Rat Poem by Twiggy C. Tubercio

I Was A Rat

I wrote the song for her
It was one of my first on piano
She had an eloquence I'd attempt to portray through the complexity of the progression
I struggled and rehearsed how I'd go about showing her

I was a fly
So much to do and work for
Fluttering with excitement and anxiety
Knowing it would end so quick
How can one put so much emotion into so little time?
I was burning

My thoughts were dispelling as usual
Cat and mouse
Cops and robbers
My fingers once so placid were now trembling
I was preparing for a grand opening in front of millions
The depletion of time was inevitable and the frame soon ended
What happened next seemed to be a miracle

She showed up to my drunk-fest flourishing with an abundance of alcoholic enthusiasts
As to my surprise, she couldn't handle her liquor
Thank God for that
I became a rat in a five star restaurant

As she knelt, curved over the bowl of tap-water and fecal matter, hurling her guts out
I articulated a drunken, ingenious dedication to her beautiful mind
My fingers danced out her song loud and confident
Drowning out the sounds of her throat flexing and heaving
I played her song through the night
flawlessly
I began to fall in love
