I Wouldn'T Do Without Poem by Ruth L. Rivers

I Wouldn'T Do Without

I wouldn’t do without the sunset,
with all its glorious splendor
nor the shifting light that plays
caressing the sky so tender
But the road that brings me to,
with all its sticks and stones
jostling me, roughing me up
often makes the suns leaving cold

I wouldn’t do without the raindrops
with all their friendly banter
keeping a cup of tea company
in the midst of friendly laughter
But the road that brings me to,
with all its lightning and furry,
a cold night on my own
makes each sting a line of worry

I wouldn’t do without the sunshine,
with all its gaze to pure
each ray warmly kissing
the blades of grass so demure
But the road that brings me to,
with all its beating indifference
to whether I’m warm or cold
leaves me depleted and tense

I wouldn’t do without the Cedar
with all its honesty and truth
standing sure and fearless
keeping each adventure new
But the road that brings me to,
with all its darkened mystery
hides the lights of warmth n’ comfort
not allowing my eyes to see

I wouldn’t do without the ocean,
with all its open tenderness
giving lift to my open wings
freely embracing the restless
But the road that brings me to,
with all its turbulent chaos
pulls down each painful dream
leaving only the ruin and loss

I wouldn’t do without the green grass,
with all their cheerful swaying
leaning nearer, then farther
tickling the toes to keep playing
But the road that brings me to,
with all its bladed thorns
claws at the feet so tender
making them bloody and torn
