I wrote a song just for the pain,
Wrote one for the joy.
I wrote a song for the gentle rain,
Wrote one for a girl and a boy.

I wrote a song for the nurturing sun,
Wrote one for the grass.
And for all the good deeds ever done,
And for my sweet Irish lass.

I wrote a song, because my soul,
Was bursting at the seams.
With so many words in silver and gold,
I heard in waking dreams.
