If As Poem by David Taylor

If As

Rating: 5.0

As if I didn’t already know
As if I didn’t feel the blow

As if my heart is bleeding now
As if I’m hurt by our spiteful row

As if I am cold and tired
As if I am lost, no place to hide

As if I could believe in you
As if all I do is true

As if I can always be
All you ever ask of me

“As if” is what you say
When I say the same each day

As if you really care
As if I am really there

“As if” is all I could say
When you and me fell out today

As if I am this man you see
As if I am just this small me

As if it is real anyway
If as one we could watch each day

As if we’re on a universal stage
Playing out these parts so grave.

“As if” is what I say
If I can play my part
Just like I might as in a play.

David, I agree with the others about it being beautiful and heartfelt. I love the way you used coupletes in this piece. Top Marks and thanks for sharing it my friend. David

Beautiful and heartfelt. I think that if we didn't love someone we wouldn't bother arguing with them for they wouldn't matter to us. What was that old song 'You Always Hurt The One You Love.' Sending hugs your way.~~~~~~~marci.xo
