If This Were Your Last Day? Poem by Norah Tunney

If This Were Your Last Day?

Rating: 4.5

If this were your last day
how would you spend it?
I know I would feel an urgency
I would want to tell those closest to me
how much I love them,
how grateful I am
for their presence in my life,
then I would drive
into the mountains
with my beloved,
eat a juicy steak
and drink the best wine,
make love
under the stars
and say thank you
one more time.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I have always been aware of the shortness of life but since I had a near death experience a few years ago every moment is even more precious.

This is very thought provoking, Norah. And I'm in agreement. If I knew this was my last day, I'd try to pack into it as much living, as much experience, as I've had in the preceding half-century plus. I do once remember someone answering a similar question with an I don't know. I always ask how much living such a person has done. An exceptional poem, Norah.

I suppose we would need to be in good health to do the things we envision. But we can always do them now MJ. What an amazing life! ! ! ! Thank you for your thoughtful comment.

Only a poet can think of the shortness of life and of impending death, and describe it in such wonderful verses.

Eating, drinking and making love are all one can do, is something too strange and shocking! ! What would anyone do for their soul at the last moment of life, if they were informed earlier? Luckily the time of last moment is still kept as a secret knowing the characters of human, it seems! ! ! ! ! ! Thank you for the poem..Norah!
