Ignorance Poem by Susan Vannatta

Ignorance

Faceless people pass
going about their lives, but how?
How can they walk by me
and not hear the piercing screams,
etched into my glass face,
begging, calling out for help
to anyone that is near? They walk.
not even a pause to see
the pain dripping from my eyes,
pleading to be ended. But they go,
ignoring the smile
pulled reluctantly from ear to ear,
laced with lies and deceit and
the stomach sickening guilt. They pass,
without a single glance at my hands,
shaking with fear from
everything around me. They continue,
no remorse for my expression
cringing with hurt from the hole
left in my chest. They leave.
No sympathy for the broken girl
with the shattered eyes, standing,
right in the middle of it All.
