Improvising Poem by Gianfranco Aurilio

Improvising

Clay pavements
between lights and manhole covers
and smoky clubs
high up on mountaintops
in crowded alleyways
my neck is soaked
with dew
and sauna steam
plummets to the ground
look further ahead
turn and suddenly
guitars
appear in sunsets
interrupted staircases
in half-empty pubs
while people are asleep
and someone is wandering
aimlessly
trying his hand at playing Andean music
just for the pleasure
of listening to verses and words
heedless voices
switch the harbour off.
