In Memory Of Colten Boushie Poem by Richard Wlodarski

In Memory Of Colten Boushie

Rating: 5.0

Have we reduced
Our human
Selfless nature
To monstrous one?

Are we barbarians
Fearing our brothers
Calling them savages
Killing them for stealing?

Can we be self-righteous
On an all white jury
Swear an oath to One God
And defend a murderer?

Can we serve and protect
Our fellow humans
Our brothers sisters
When we only see red?

A thought provoking and insightfull poem. Beautifully crafted and well executed. Though it is a sad poem about death I am glad you bring this out. There have been alarming cases in the world of injustices, murders and racism. And yet it seems our hands are tied in solving these cases.I hope we can still see the day when we treat everyone as our brothers. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece.

A terrible waste of life, this poem represents an honest portrait and critique of some of the problems plaguing our society, we still live in fear of the other no matter how far we have progressed. Your asking some good questions that we must all face openly, if we don't look pass our differences we will all be seeing red. I'm glad you have immortalized this man, though its a shame it happened, perhaps the future will improve.

Kevin, I'm an eternal optimist. In spite of cases like this, I believe the future is already improving. And we poets can, and will, accelerate that process. Thanks a lot for your positive insightful comments!

Mankind is seeking answers to all these questions to ensure its longevity in view of the present scenario. All intellectuals, thinkers, artists and the poets ought to be concerned and worried. Thanks, Richard.
