In Remembrance Of Mary Ellen Poem by Della Hodgson James

In Remembrance Of Mary Ellen

Dear friend from me you are gone
And Oh, the empty space,
I never realized what you meant to me
Until the tomb had hidden your face.
In life you were a great inspiration
Always to me a stay,
Your smile, your voice, the clasp of your hand
You were my heroine in many ways. Your prayers have lifted me up higher
And caused me to heavenward look,
Many of your beautiful inspiring thoughts
Are recorded in my memory book.

That they may be a light to some pathway
Where is struggling, some weary soul,
To brighten their life, and inspire them
To reach for the heavenly goal.

Dear sweet friend, I miss you so sadly
Your principles are doubly endeared,
They have caused me to search the scriptures
For the promises of God's blessed word.

Your life was a worthy example
Meek, gentle, yet infinetely proud,
Flowing through channels of your influence
To envelope like a holy cloud.

And may your friends be like an army
To bear your message on,
Till the prayers of your life are answered
And victory gloriously enshrouded has won.

May your life's example be as worthy
As to me your life is a shrine,
Standing out like a wonderful masterpiece
Of perfectness-a life-lived divine.
