In The Rain Poem by Tristan Scully

In The Rain

the pattering of the rain reminds me of
your tears;
the way you used to cry in the grey days
before the springtime

[but spring for you wasn't just a season,
it was a place, a feeling]

catching rainbows in vanilla-scented jars
then, feeling bad,
you would always set them free.
you'd laugh about it afterwards
with your tear-streaked face
stars reflected in your eyes, when there
were none.

but now you're gone, just a
whisper of the wind.

I remember, as the clouds gather in the pale skies
and it starts to rain
remember your tear streaked face
with the golden smile
and your eyes, full of
living stars

in the rain
