We don't think we have it within us
Just as we don't think that disaster
Will ever impinge on our lives
But when faced with a chalenge
We delve into
Our inner reserves
And discover
Hidden resources
We had no idea we had

We may
At first
Take tentative
Or faltering steps towards
Those reserves

We may surprise ourselves
And others along the way
But somehow humankind
Finds
The strength to rise to the challenge
And, meet it head on
