Iqbal Ashhar's Ghazal: Wo Bhi Kuchh Bhula Hua Tha Main Kuchh Bhatka Hua In English Translation Poem by Ravi Kopra

Iqbal Ashhar's Ghazal: Wo Bhi Kuchh Bhula Hua Tha Main Kuchh Bhatka Hua In English Translation

He seemed hazy and I was seemingly lost too
In ashes he was finding tinders and I was too

When you tell stories, tell them such that
Everyone asks what happened next and you too

Know that age brings with itself certain prizes -
You do not surprise the mirror! It is a prize too

Night came and changed the date to the next day
I dreamt a dream, not new, a dream of old days too

When I saw her in smiles thinking of someone
In my ignorance I thought that she was mine too.

(An added couplet)

'Ravi' is sharp, always clear in his thoughts
He knows when he smiles, she will smile back too.

wo bhi kuchh bhula hua tha main kuchh bhaTka hua
IQBAL ASHHAR

vo bhī kuchh bhūlā huā thā maiñ kuchh bhaTkā huā
raakh meñ chiñgāriyāñ DhūñDī ga.iiñ aisā huā

dāstāneñ hī sunānī haiñ to phir itnā to ho
sunñe vaalā shauq se ye kah uThe phir kyā huā

umr kā Dhalnā kisī ke kaam to aayā chalo
aa.ine kī hairateñ kam ho ga.iiñ achchhā huā

raat aa.ī aur phir tārīḳh ko dohrā ga.ī
yuuñ huā ik ḳhvāb to dekhā magar dekhā huā

vo kisī ko yaad kar ke muskurāyā thā udhar
aur maiñ nādān ye samjhā ki vo merā huā
