It Was Always You Poem by Thoughts of a Single Man

It Was Always You

Rating: 5.0

The days roll by like tumbleweeds
in the deserts of my existence
bland patches of heat
split the scorched ground
as echoes of my sorrow waft in the tepid air
if only you were here
if only I could seize
the wretched hands of fate
and force the fathers of time
to take me back to that exquisite moment
the moment when you were mine
I see the image of us
so clearly
in the stage of my third eyes
cursing the crows of time
as they fly by
we were so young then
so foolish
so unrefined
but yet I still knew what we shared
was an essence of a love defined
memories of you pour from conscious
drenching the fabric of my soul
with your fragrant stain
how many times I wonder
have I laid in the darkness of a lonely night
still calling out your name
I know we may not be the same
for the weight of years
has a way of changing people
and I know there are so many
who are in pursuit of your hand
but they could never understand
the death of what we held
I could live a thousand lifetimes
lay within endless feminine fields
and still not be graced by something so real
none has ever touched my heart
the way you did
so gentle and so tender
I weep in my agony
of the joy I still remember
my tears I hide them well
donning the mask of the causal jester
for the public swell
silently lost in a private hell
I prayed on my knees to find you
to hold in my hands my precious gem
to gaze upon the vision
of my sacred ruby
to dance in the warmth of my fabled treasure
to see you
to feel you
to love you
and be touched by the embrace
of my crystal once again
there is not enough ink in any pen
to scribe the words of my devotion
for it is as endless as the sky
higher than any mountain
deeper than any ocean
here in this moment
in the evening
under these stars
the distance between us seems not that far
as I call to you
hoping that you hear the melody
of the one who loves to so
that you read thye words
of the one you always knew
that you play the song
of the one that loves you true
for in the sea of all the faces
that rummaged through my shattered world
the pale entities that attempted
to leave these scars upon my heart
there was only one
whose signature was forever written
on the wall of my being
forever then
forever now
until forever ends my love
it was always you
