Jack The Samoyed Poem by Francis Duggan

Jack The Samoyed

Rating: 5.0

His nose and eyes are as dark as the wing of a crow
But his hair is as white as the new fallen snow
His bushy white tail curled over his back
And the only name he does answer to is Jack.

Named after a Siberian tribe known as the Samoyed
'Tis not as a guard or a watchdog he could be employed
For such he seems too friendly and too free of guile
And when he shows his teeth 'tis his welcoming smile.

In warm weather from the sun's lamp he likes to hide away
In his backyard in the shade of the palm tree for hours on end he lay
From the full sun to a cooler place he likes to retreat
His thick hairy coat is not designed for the heat.

My ageing neighbour Tess lives alone she is seventy three
She loves her Samoyed Jack for her he's great company
In the cool of the evening they go for a walk in the park
And everytime he sees me he greets me with a welcoming bark.
