Journey Of The Return Poem by Richard Provencher

Journey Of The Return

scraggly bunches dip
and twirl, one direction
then another

an
organized confusion

wingtip advantage
riding each gust of wind,
gliding to ecstasy
on northern's flight, swoop
and turn again

V-ploughing
playing chase-the-leader, a
feathered flying wedge

geese families
three squadrons strong
heading for summer

wind-chopping along

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
V-flying formations of geese fascinate me. My first encounter with tens of thousands of them was in Moosonee, on James Bay when I worked with the Ontario Department of Welfare Services. I was the Caseworker for the whole territory from Moose River Crossing to Winisk on James Bay. And everywhere I went there were geese, especially on the Goose Reserve at Shipsand's Island.

Correction by Richard L. Provencher - - Winisk is on Hudson Bay, not James Bay.
