Just Let Me Be... Poem by Ibrahim Bidu

Just Let Me Be...

Stop fumbling and mumbling

I don’t need your coins

Nor the excuses you are giving,

Spare me that look

I know you don’t care

And I don’t even if you do

I know I don’t have legs

But that’s no big deal,

I’ve soared to heights

And toured places

You’ve only been to in your dreams;

I know my eyes don’t see

But if only you had the chance

To peep into depths

Without eyes I can perceive,

You will cease to wonder

From whence the strength to flash

That disarming smile comes.

The fact that I don’t talk and walk

Or look the way you do

Doesn’t mean I’m beneath you;

I’m special and in some ways

I even do surpass you,

So why don’t you let me be;

I’m proud of me

A unique and special being!
