Just The Same Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Just The Same

Perhaps I am too forgiving,
perhaps I too often play pretend.
Whatever the case may be,
It's lack of self respect.
When members of my family love,
they love forever.
When I love,
I love forever.
Someday I'll take my life,
as is written.
Until then,
I can really only ride the storm out.
I may be miserable,
but I can accept it.
My body may be fading,
but I'd use it until the day it collapses.
I can't die,
if I don't live.
If acceptance isn't possible,
tolerance will fill the void in my heart.
Compromise will over flow,
and selfishness will condem.
I never blamed this on you,
but rather, held a stone in my heart.
You're irreplacable,
but deadly just the same.
