Just The Thought Of You Poem by William Jackson

Just The Thought Of You

Rating: 5.0

Just the thought of you
sends my mind reeling!
So young and full of life.
You are acquiring life's treasure,
while I am casting it off to hang
onto life itself and to pursue you.
I know it would never work out,
an April to December romance,
and I tell myself this everyday.
Still, I am intoxicated with the thought
that you might love me at least for a little while.

It must be understood that not every poem is confessional or a reflection of real life. I am just writing a poem based on my observations. Sometimes May to December romances do occur, and initially may work and appear to be a good idea. Still, if a man is 20 to 25 years older than the woman this probably creates problems eventually, and it seems to me that women who become involved in such romances inevitably are short changed by life itself, dooming themselves to a life of lonliness later in life since men already have a shorter life span. I have a friend who was dating an older man, and she decided to end the relationship because she confessed to me that she could not see herself pushing him around in a wheel chair later in life. I also have friends with whom I went to high school that married significantly older men, and it was strange to see them at our 25th year high school reunion. The age span difference seemed inappropriate. Anyway, I hope I have not offended anyone. I am sure I have. Oh, well. What can I do. Anyway, I am sure that for the older guy it is a pleasant experience while it lasts. However, I would be worried about eventually losing out to a younger man. I tried to capture that concern within this poem. Is this appropriate to explore such a thought. Tell me what you think. Sometimes I like the delet button.

William~ I found myself relating to this poem in a very significant way! You did a wonderful job in conveying the sad & short lived reality that such a relationship can bring. I used to ask myself if age was only a number...life taught me otherwise: (

Well WJ. if that's a holiday romance, I should move! lol I would say the reason your friend left her doddering lover, was she didn't love him, that happens, love comes in many measures! Sometimes the full measure takes a while to come your way. Good honest poem though. That's a compliment! lol keep em coming please. Smiling at you, Tai

How terribly romantic. Everyone experiences a love that should have never been...yet was always meant to be. Usually short and so sweet the taste shall never leave your lips. Another beautiful read... :) Bj
