Keep A Critique Close By
Keep a critic close by on guard,
Build his cottage in your courtyard,
Water does he need, nor yet soap,
Cleanses your conduct, hangs dry on rope.

This is what St Kabeer advised: keeping critiques close by, never those that would only say good words just to please. Pleasant words but not fair have taken no one any far. Here is transliteration of the original:
nindaka niyaren rākhiye, āngana kuţī ćhavāya;
bin pānī sābun binā, nirmala karai subhāya.
