Kids Must Learn On Their Own Poem by Ray Hansell

Kids Must Learn On Their Own

Rating: 5.0

Trying to deal
Trying to cope
Trying to find
A glimmer of hope

There's always one
Who needs to be lead
There's always one
Who ignores all that's said

Sometimes the lost one
Finds out on their own
That all they ever needed
Was to listen at home

It takes some defeats
Before you can win
One day they may look back
And see what might have been

Then they may realize
It's all been a waste
All the disappointments
Soon must be faced

They'll never admit
When parents are right
Hopefully they'll remember
Just how they lost sight

Of the things in life
That matter the most
That in order to succeed
One cannot coast

Through a while lifetime
The lessons are many
The things that they'll learn
Will always be plenty

One has to give
To get things in return
It's a very hard lesson
That some will learn

We all need time
To find our own way
No matter what else
Anyone may say

So give them some room
Let them fall on their own
But always let them know
They'll always have a home

With a little luck along the way
One day they'll wake up and see
That it wasn't everybody else
The problem was always with "me"

They'll need to admit to themselves
Just how wrong they have been
They must see through their own eyes
That life sometimes is a game you can win

Right now many things to them
Are completely unknown
That's why we must give them the room
So kids can learn on their own

Ray, I love this poem. My best friend's sons are no longer kids, but they're acting that way. Giving their parents a miserable time. I shall share this poem with that whole family. Thank you so much for this timely poem!

A perfectly timed poem, just as it appears that a prodigal may be returning home. Thank you for this, Ray! :)
