Kitty Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Kitty

Kitty

As happy as a child
-as eager as an old
- (Possibly and maybe)
-I read of "Kitty" and "Kipling"
-doubtlessly I do not
-like latter…not at all
-he is Tory and racist

But always, mean always
-good and bad are mingled
-never take anything
-as single, isolate
-pure, independent

Never, never
Never, never

I see me in Kitty at that age
-had returned to village
-to receive a letter:
-"He has been…"
-with it I could further…
-schooling in Tehran

There I served my teacher
-as slave serves master
-but with love, from heart

I knew the lantern with mantle
-villagers? Unaware!
-include our teacher
-like a king dictated…

Had none of the textbooks required
-away were my parents …
-I had none, instead used my mind
-used brain, awareness
-taught the kids, used their books
-in fact…tit for tat…
-their books were my guidelines
-so I was a good pet…for teacher…
