La Dolce Vita Poem by GK Talabi

La Dolce Vita

In the Garden of Eden we were created
we never courted or dated
Eve you were my wife from the very start
Loving you with all my heart
You were my soul mate
Oblivious to the fickle finger of fate

In paradise the Almighty God placed us
To have dominion and be the boss
He called it the Garden of Eden
Eating from the tree of knowledge was forbidden
In nakedness we lived with no shame
That was until the serpent came

The serpent came with guile and deceit
Gave us the forbidden fruit as a treat
He said we would be like God and be wise
Sadly it was just one of his many lies
Overnight primal innocence and paradise was lost
See what our disobedience cost

With anger and curses God drove us out
He gave us something to cry about
Under the burning sun we tilled the soil
For our daily bread we now had to toil
No doubt the forbidden fruit was Pandora's box
How I wish I could turn back the clocks

My children came along Caine and Abel
I rejoiced thinking my life was now stable
But jealousy raised its ugly head
At the hands of Caine, Abel was dead
Incurring the wrath of the Almighty God
Caine was banished to the land of Nod

Blessed with a third son called Seth
To compensate for Abel's death
Seth's wife had a baby boy
My grandson Enosh is my pride and joy
I feel my life is now on track
But nothing can bring Abel back

Now here is a word for the wise
Disobedience cost me paradise
Ever since I ate the forbidden fruit
I've had to face the harshest truth
That life is unfair, hard and sometimes bitter
The Garden of Eden was la dolce vita

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is my take on the Garden of Eden. In this poem I have given Adam a voice and the reader can hear him speak. He speaks about his regrets and desire to turn back the hands of time if possible. I will love to hear your opinion.
