Land Of My Birth Poem by Jabulani Mzinyathi

Land Of My Birth

the land between those rivers
the zambezi to the north
the limpopo to the south
the land of my birth

the land of those stone structures
the great architecture of VaRozvi
the land of shungu namutitima
stolen by queen victoria' subject

the land of tourist attractions
too numerous to mention
land of the enigmatic chinhoyi caves
land of the cool eastern highlands

the land ravaged by misrule
the land of that failed dynasty
the land of the coup that was not one
a land brimming with book learning

zimbabwe, land of my birth
my umbilical cord there embedded
the land full of hope
where hope still refuses to die

this land of stunted growth
in dire need of chemotherapy
as the cancer of corruption gnaws it
land of securocrats and benzocrats

a land brimming with human resources
peace loving in the face of adversity
a land of unimaginable resilience
like the sturdy walls of Dzimbabwe
