Last Love. Poem by Charles M Moore

Last Love.

Rating: 5.0

When he was young and just a kid
a teenage boy with life to live
he fell for every girl who smiled
this love he hoped would last a while

He married one and lived with some
produced some kids both girls and sons
but somehow it all slipped away
just memories he keeps today

Still he searches for that love
a hope he lost, been deprived of
now older and long past his prime
and fastly running out of time

Riches don't mean anything
power has no voice to sing
when your're caught up in the ring
of lonliness and all it brings

Health can help you move along
friends can make you carry on
but what's it worth when it goes wrong
and the last love that you had is gone

It's a torment and relief
when you know that love has ceased
cutting pains fill every day
that only love can take away

Still he waits, perhaps there's time
maybe somewhere down the line
another chance to fill the void
of this old man and teenage boy.
