Laughing Ellen Poem by Francis Duggan

Laughing Ellen

The World it is full of characters we see and meet them every day
Like Ellen now in her late forties her brown hair is showing lots of gray
She is always smiling or laughing she is such a pleasure to meet
Before seeing her you are sure to hear her as her laughter it rings down the street.

Her nickname it is Laughing Ellen her husband is the quiet fellow Jim
He leaves Ellen do most of the talking you never hear much out of him
They have a nineteen year old daughter the beautiful and brown haired one Marie
One of the town's finest young women not many as lovely as she.

Every town needs one like Laughing Ellen there are plenty of sad faces around
So easy going and happy go lucky her type are quite hard to be found
A true character in the best sense just hearing her laugh does brighten my day
Those who say laughter is the best of medicine are so right in what they do say.

She is always smiling or laughing the type others do wish to know
If there is another side to her at least that side she never does show
The one who is known as Laughing Ellen a character in her own right
She is always smiling or laughing her heart must be full of sunlight.
